I purchased the book through The Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona.The blurb summarizes plot as “The story of a singer, his two loves, and his career, from its beginning along the Jersey shore to its final years, first in Las Vegas and lastly in Atlantic City.” Along the way, as Marty Collins reflects on his life, we get to know him, Maddie his wife, and Hannah Rose his first love. As the book opens, Marty and Maddie are going through a rough patch: He has to rest his vocal cords on the advice of his doctor, and wants to move from Las Vegas back to the Jersey Shore. Maddie wants to stay in Las Vegas. When Hannah Rose appears on the scene after many years away complications arise, and Marty has some difficult decisions ahead.
By using a fable-like style, the author also tells a deeper story: How faith in God works in our lives and helps inform our decisions, even when we are not conscious of its influence. I give this uplifting, Christian romance 3.5 stars.

Marty Collins in Concert is N. Bruce Rogers' first novel. The story opens in the present and periodically ( in backstory narrative) toggles between the present and past events that serve to add meaning to the story. The story moves quickly and is enjoyable because of the author's choice of words and style. And this is where the reader's work begins. Our trio of main characters--Marty, the career driven musician/singer and the two women he loves--requires the reader to somehow identify and understand the motivations of each of these characters and wonder, if in the same situation the reader would act or re-act in the same way.
